Really Roughing It
#1
Well, we did it. We got out on our maiden backpacking voyage. We learned alot by doing it that you really can't learn from a book.
We forgot some things, and brought some things that we could have done without.

The weather was hot, but our reward was jumping in the creek to cool off and spend the afternoon.
The mosquitos were bad, but we had spray, so we tolerated the buzzing.
Lulu was well behaved and a good night watchman. She had so much fun that it was worth the trip just to watch her run and play.

Here are some pics. We didn't take many. We spent alot of time in the creek with the camera back at camp.

Yep. We crossed the entire 120,000 acre DeSoto National Forest to get to that old fire lane that runs to the creek. We wheeled the truck about 1 1/2 miles off of the forestry road and parked.
Trivia fact: We ran this trail on day 2 of the of the first Laurel Expedition.
It was still a bit wet and difficult to keep footing on. But, hey, if we wanted 'easy' we would have stayed home. 164

Well then do it this Saturday. Pick a trail, check the bike over, and be ready to roll on the weekend. Still plenty of time to invite a buddy to do the same and meet you there. 164

Nice Pics Res, looks a lot like the forests up here, and nice set up on your fire/tent arrangement, smoke looks like it is going downhill away from the tents in the evening.

Black Tiger, I don't know that I lost weight, but I had to tighten my belt one notch. Lose weight by hitting the mountain trails.

Wizard, we pride ourselves on maintaining small campfires and even smaller cooking fires. We get controlled heat for cooking without burning the hair off our arms, then change it up to get light for an evening "entertainment" fire. We don't have to spend a bunch of time gathering wood.

Here is our pot of chili hanging over our potatos (wrapped in foil down in the coals). This was on the Arizona Run IX.

And the cook, hard at work.

LOL. Me too. 204

I think it is possible, but not if you are still just talking about it. Start 10 minutes ago. Stop eating that sandwich in front of you and go ride your bike.
