2wd lift
#1
I have 2000 4cyl 2wd ext cab. I know there is way to crank the torsion bar but when i look up how to do it, it does match up with what i am looking at. The adjustment nut is on the bottom. Any ideas if i crank the bottom part or what?

If you tighten the nut on the bolt attached to the torsion bar (shown in that picture), it will add torsional rigidity to the torsion bar thereby pushing down on the lower control arm and effectively raising the front end of the truck.
Calmini offers a 3" torsion bar lift that includes heavy duty torsion bars, replacement upper control arms, and shackles for the rear.

Automotive customizers has a lift for that too. They ship slow but are reliable, least when I bought a lift from them for my 04 KC. I would also recommend AAL's for the back too. With a 3" lift you can run LT245/75 R16 tires or 30X 9.50x15

My son ran 32X11.50-15 Goodyear MTRs on his 03 with the Calmini 3" lift and some heavy hammer influence to the lower sill flanges.
I cannot find any pics at the moment, but here is one after he added a 2" BL and 33" Baja Claws.

The 4 cyl XE KC will have a different suspension than the 4wd or Desert Runner. The XE will sit lower than the other two. I can't remember what yr it was but some recent yrs don't come 4cyl 4wd. I believe, (and I may be wrong), that it was early 1990's when the regular cab went away that the 4wd, 4cyl went away as well. For this, I 'assume' it to be an XE. My 04 XE KC 4cyl did not run the same suspension as my 2000 KC 2wd Desert Runner.

I bet that little supercharge 4x will climb walls.

Interesting. I always thought the Frontier 1st gen and 1st gen 1.5 as well as 2nd gen shared the same suspension components for 4wd and 2wd just different spindles. My son's truck was a base 4wd V6 KC. The only option was AC. While stock, sitting next to a 2wd, you couldn't tell the difference. Maybe his was an SE vs XE 2wd.

I do not remember working on my son's truck. It has been about 6 years since we installed his lift.
This nut will not tighten?

Yeah like there is two nuts on that bolts. One is the 19mm and other one on top of that is larger. And it won't tighten anymore.

Loosen the 1st one so you can get to the 2nd one. tighten the 2nd one until you get what you want. Be aware the further you lift the more suspension droop you lose and the harsher your ride will be when your suspension drops. Once both sides are equal, tighten the 1st nut back down.

If you mark the torsion bars, take them off and reindex the front side you can lift it. One or two teeth is all it takes but if you lift it anymore than a couple inches, you will need to replace the upper control arms.

Ah...no more threads.

Indexing the torsion bar will work if you are at the end of the threads.
