Disclaimer: This is my second analysis of amsoil, but not back to back changes because of the dealer changing my oil when replacing the secondary timing chain tensioners. This oil was however the second oil change of amsoil in a row since having dino oil in.

So I had my oil sent out for analysis and it doesn't seem to be holding up as well as I thought it would. I had about 6200 miles on it and the Total Base Number (TBN) was abnormally low with a Severity of 3 [Severity Scale is 0-4 where 0 and 1= Normal, 2 and 3= Abnormal, and 4=Critical].

"TBN is a measurement of the capacity of engine oil for neutralising strong acids from combustion of fuel oil." It is used to let you know how much longer your oil will protect for. They say to change oil when TBN strength diminishes to <2. My TBN was 2.85. I have been driving it like I stole it, so that could attribute to the low TBN.

I am now trying Mobil1 Extended Performance.
