After listening to many different HUs at many places, and talking to many people, I would go with the Pioneer.
I have the F900Bt in my truck and really like it. The 900 is available online for $540 shipped. The only difference between the 700 and 900 is that the 900 plays DVD's and the 700 does not.
Its a really easy install too, so dont let anyone talk you in to charging more than $50 for the install.

Shoot! I didn't see that! I just assumed it did everything INCLUDING playing DVDs...i guess the pioneer is out of the question and ummm $540 shipped is over my budget. I'm looking for something under $450...I'll take a look at the 900 though. Besides what i have listed, can either of you or anybody else help me find a reliable HU
EDIT: I found prices low as $525 shipped, but that's still a hefty price tag. Wish Microsoft/E-bay still had that 25% off deal on all "Buy Now" items...
Let me make a phone call on Monday... I might be able to get it for you at $499 shipped. Its worth going $50 over your budget!
Well i won't be able to buy the HU until i get my tax return and another thing concerns me, thats security. I don't want to experience a broken window with a hole in the dash. I've seen HUs where the screen hides inside the dash, and that gives me some comfort. So i'd like to shop around a little more.

Check out

Please do me a personal favor and dont by a Lanzar, Pyle, Valor or Dual unit. I would rather send you the additional $100 and have you get the Pioneer or Kenwood than to see you buy one of those.
Here is why:
1. The big manufacturers, such as Pioneer, Kenwood, Alpine or Clarion use maps that are pretty up to date. And when ever the company that provides their maps (such as Igo) releases updates its a simple update and now you have the new maps. It is even possible with the Pioneer unit to add 3D buildings and landmarks by hacking the map and installing the additional files directly from Igo. The maps I am using in my Pioneer were just made available in Jan 09 and they are from maps taken in Sept 08. Im sure that this is also possible with the Kenwood units.
2. If you have a failure of a Pioneer, Kenwood, Alpine or Clarion you can take it to nearly any of the local dealers and have it sent off for warranty repair. If you buy one of thes off brands, (which most real shops dont carry) you wont be able to do that.
3. The support network (forums) for the big manufacturers are all available. I doubt highly that you would find a Lanzar, Dual or Valor forum to help you out.
4. Then there is simple build quality... The off brands are cheap for a reason. I had a valor flip out DVD player once... It was returned 3 times before I gave up and bought a Pioneer D3.
Of course in the end its up to you... But I would really suggest against either of the ones you are looking at (or anything from any of the brands I named above).
oi
Pioneer 700BT only downside is that it can't play dvd? Can't you just download it on a SD card or USB and play it from there? hmmm
Yes, you can put movies on the SD card OR use a USB flash drive OR an Ipod.
I have a 16GB SD card that Ive tested, a 32GB USB flash drive and my 16GB Iphone.
Now the Iphone has the best user interface... But although it may take a few extra seconds to find the movie you want to play if you have a 16GB SD card full, it will work just fine.
Plans have changed!!
And you'll understand why i can't buy a HU!!!!!!
