Full Version: Utili-Track System

One of the features of our Nissan Titan that we have found to be unexpectedly useful is the Utili-track bed system. With a name like Utili-track, you might think that this is simply one of a long list of features attached to the window sticker of a truck by some marketing type.

Wrong. The Utili-track bed system is something we wish would be on every truck. It is a sliding rail system accomodating a variety of OEM and aftermarket accessories which can lock into the four lengthwise rails and one horizontal rail. Rather than having to stretch bungee cords to the far corners of the truck to tie something down, we can just slide the Titan's adjustable cleats to where we need them, lock them down, and have a secure tie down in minutes.

Even better are the plethora of items which have been made to work with this system. From bicycle fork mounts to sliding floor trays to toolboxes to motorcycle wheel chocks to bed extenders, the myriad of possibilities for the Utili-track system
Awww, Nissan was smart in this feature, I had to tie down the fake carpet, love the tie down system in our trucks!!!!
That's a double post. Mods? 180

I needed somewhere to keep our luggage dry and secure for our trip to CA. I mounted a plastic lockable storage trunk (Rubbermaid, I think) to the left floor track using the base of the small square stops and some big washers on the inside of the box. I turned it to the side of the truck to make it more accessible.

I need to get a pic.
No double post 167 The first post was an article that I found, and the second post was my thoughts...
oh and I forgot this at the end of my last post....." 181 "

Yeah, I haven't used that one either!
i love the UT. i've made a poor-man's fishin rod holder for the walls. works awesome. and i love the sliding bed extender, more so now that i have a roll-top tonneau to keep people from stealing it from me.

i use the bottom rails all the time. i've got a rubbermaid bin that i keep all my wheelin' stuff in (mostly the required equipment of my state pass for driving on the outer beach), and i just toss it in the back and strap it down to the floor whenever i go out. keeps the inside of the truck clean too.

here's a quick cheapie one i did. cost ~$5 and took about 10 minutes. i used a spring-grip garage tool organizer ( http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=p ... 6-923-SG5W ) from lowes and cut it in half, and expanded the holes. works pretty good, and can hold 2 rods (4 if you make another for the other side.)

here's what i'm thinking for next time: roof-mounted:

2 of these:

plus a set of these:
http://www.courtesyparts.com/Merchant2/ ... 99R1-R5100

plus a can of black spray paint (the white just sticks out so much).

and then i can get 5 rods attached to the roof rack. enough to get me, the girlfriend, and a friend or 3 on the beach...

then i can keep the tonneau closed too...

ideas...ideas...
Too bad nissan dropped the ball and made a different bed for the Utili-track trucks than the non ones. Gmc has a pretty good system and its a dealer option.

I would love to have it in mine but its seems to be too much of a pain in the ass..
Utilitrack was a big selling point of the truck to me. I am constantly using them to tie down stuff, and i find the floor mounted ones especially handy for that.

I have also made rod holders...

Thanks for the posts on the fishing rods! You guys rock, and what a GREAT idea!

BTW.... 168 Gr8ful_ken, and welcome to the spot!
I never thought about mounting side boards. Great idea! Nice pic. Thanks
I pulled up behind a Tundra the other day, and it had some kind of Utili-track in its bed. 179 Wonder if he had it install as an after market add on, or is Toyota's putting them in their beds now to?
When I bought my truck in 2005 I test drove a Tacoma and it was equiped with a utilitrac type system. It was not as heavy duty looking, but to me it looked a little nicer since it was not as massive looking.

I am sure that it is not as heavy duty, but I rarely ever put that much stress on my system anyway.

The 05+ Taco has plastic tracks... plastic tracks on a plastic bed? Yeah I really want to strap in something heavy. 205

Another reason I cant uderstand thier popularity!

From what I could see, it looked like a cheap after market product.
Curious if anyone has experience taking a track out and if so what tool is required? I need to remove the side bed tracks to install Thule rack supports for kayaks. Trail and error will allow me to find right tool eventually but thought I'd leverage past experience of those on this forum if possible. Many thanks!
