by the way, the banner looks real good, nice and clean. yeah i am using a 4 year old computer and old school style 17 inch monitor so maybe that was causing the problem. in any case, thank you for making the necessary adjustments. im loving the blue theme even more...

yes i know i have 42 unread messages but actually i have read them already and they are old messages its just that the switch probably re-delivered them...

Ok, that looks pretty good. I'll try to remember to widen the other themes this evening.

I updated "View Today's Posts" to now say active topics. In addition, I now made it show all topics active in the last 48 hours instead of the 24 it was showing before. Better?

All themes are now in the wider format.
I think this version of Frontyspot is the best you have had. I am back to the dark side.
I like the dark theme too.

Big thanks to BL for giving us these updates and making it a very smooth process!

Just thought I'd check in to see how everything has been working out. I'll be here all weekend with very little to do, so I can try to look into any little nitpicky things you might have found...

I don't know how it seems to you, but the new site loads at least twice as fast as the old one for me...
I found another thing I like about this software. Look where frontyspot ranks on google now in a search for Nissan Frontier forum...

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=...oq=&aqi=g1

On the first page at Yahoo too:

NICE!!!!!!!!!!!185185
Awesome! It is like McDonald's,,,"I'm Lovin' It!"
I feel so stupid not knowing about the little green arrow things that take you straight to the 1st unread post in a thread. I went back to all my other forums I frequent, mississippi-mud, titanspot, jeepforum, rmp-o, and they all use some icon to do the same thing. 183

Don't feel stupid. I run these forums and still find new things all the time!

(06-20-2009 08:07 PM)mdawg4x4 Wrote: [ -> ]Can you add a "View First Unread" feature to this software like you did on the other versions?

(06-20-2009 09:23 PM)BLWedge09 Wrote: [ -> ]Would you rather the links on the homepage(portal) do that than go to the last post in the thread. Just so you know, when your in a forum viewing the list of all the topics, if a topic has a post in it that you haven't read yet, it will display a little green arrow to the left of the topic name. You can click that to go to the first unread post in the thread.

Clicking the green arrow works ok sometimes, but if the thread is taking a long time to load (like the random pics thread or eglaisi's hardbody thread) it ends up not actually going to the first unread post since the page adjusts as the posts load. Is there any way to get a link/button to click like the old software so that I can wait for the thread to load then click "view first unread"? Thanks

Unfortunately, I doubt this is something I'll be able to do. I'll look into it, but don't get your hopes up too much. I'll try to explain without going into great detail. If you notice, when you click the little green arrow, the link is different than when you click the regular link to a thread. When you click the green arrow, the post ID of your first unread post in the thread is passed in to the page so that it knows where to load to. On the regular link, it is not. Once the page has loaded, unless that ID is in the url, there's no way of knowing which post is the last one you read without trying to calculate it all over again...on every page that loads...on the entire site. I suspect this was not added to keep page load times quick. That would be a lot of queries on the database to add and a lot of calculations to do. As it is now, it only has to do this when you actually click the green arrow.

Hope that at least makes a little sense. I'm good at doing this stuff, but I suck at teaching it! Like I said, I'll still try to look into it just to see if there's a way...
I don't know that clicking the green arrow is any slower. The pics still have to load whether you are accessing the First Unread Post in that thread or just selecting that page of the post. I love the green arrow, now that I know what it does, and have adopted that to all my other forums. It is a different symbol for each forum, but in the same location.

I have contemplated how this function works many times, but being somewhat computer illiterate, don't loose sleep over it. Well, yes I do! As an engineer, I love to understand how things work, but cannot see the electrons and/or 1s and 0s at work withing the electronic world.
