Anyone replaced there factory battery yet? My is just about to die. The positive side is overflowing with battery acid, at the point where wires that are connected have been bitten off. I tried loosening the terminal, and seems like the positive nub is going to twist off, so i left it on and cleaned it as best as i could, but i'm worried that i might run into some problems in the near future. I don't want to be stranded anywhere between my home and San Diego.

I heard about Die Hard batteries...what else is there? I'm going to check to see if consumer reports has anything about battery ratings.
Well an OEM battery was $265 for my Titan!!! eff that! I got me one of these ($215+.. IIRC).. Titan is reverse poles.. Had to special order it locally. Our Military uses these.. Must be good right? All I know is when I crank her my VK56 wants to run and hide.. I know aint a Frontier, but I am positive they have a battery for ya'll..

Yikes, way out of my price range. Looking for something reasonable, like $75. Need it to last me at least 48 months. Anybody have an account with consumer report? haha.
I have a subscription to CR. I am not sure if the Frontier takes the group 24 or group 35. Nissan uses both, but the article does not break it down by model. The prices in the test run from $75 to $110. I am on line right now so if you can tell me which batttery is correct I'll tell you which battery is rated the best. If I don't hear from you I'll check my truck in the morning.

OkieScot
Frontier is a group 24F.
Thanks Eglaisi
I'm thinking about buying a NAPA Legend for $80....hopefully it makes a difference compared to wal-mart $40 batteries.
Napa also sells NAPA Nascar for $94 and Napa orbital Nascar for $174.....

Interstate Battery is $87....w00t.
When is time I was thinking of going with an Optima red top

Quote:i got the same battery as SQNismo. i was hoping to get an optima but i found out that optima, walmart's everstart, energizer, duralast, autocraft and truestart were all manufactured by one company, johnson controls, inc. if i am not mistaken they also make oem batteries for honda, mazda, acura and mitsubishi.so therefore i decided to stick with what was cheaper and had good CCA

This was carphreak
According to Kragen, Napa, and Interstate it's a 24F lol
QUOTE=SQnismo

Quote:i just replaced mine last weekend with a walmart everstart maxx size 24F. the group 35 was the same physical size, same price, but only like 650 CCA. where the group 24F is a 850 CCA.
Napa and Interstate are both made by Johnson Industry. I heard JC is better than Exide.

Optima Red is well over $100, it's way out of my price range. I need a battery under $90.
CR rates the Interstate Mega-Tron best at $101, then Everstart Maxx-24North $75, Everstart Maxx-24south $75, Diehard Gold 33123(South) $110, Duralast Gold 24-DLG $89, Autocraft Titanium 24-6 $85, Diehard Gold 33023(North) $110, and Interstate Mega-Tron II MT-24 $88.

The ratings went in the same order 83, 82, 78, 76, 75, 72, 59 and 43. The two Everstart batteries werre both rated best buys.

This raing was done back in November 2008 and is the latest testing of batteries they have done.

Well, i pulled the plug and bought Napa "The Legend 75" Battery which has a $5.00 rebate. This comes to a total of $75, which is what i was expecting to pay. The battery i bought was made on October 08, by EXIDE. I'm still not sure which company is best to buy from (Exide or Johnson), but if i run into any problems, i have a 18 month no question ask return and swap and a 75 month pro-rated warranty. I don't know anybody around my area that sells an Everstart battery, which is what i would have purchased. Interstate costs a little more ($88) and has only a 65 month warranty on there low end battery.

Thanks so much OkieScot

Edit:
Just my luck. When i need a comparison between Exide and Johnson, i soon find the info i need AFTER i buy the battery....found out Exide has a bad reputation with dead, leaking, corroding, etc. So i'm returning this battery and going to the Napa store 2 towns over to buy one made by Johnson Control. I don't want to be stuck in a parking lot without a charge...too much of a hassle, uhg.

SO IF ANY OF YOU ARE PLANNING ON BUYING A BATTERY, GO WITH JOHNSON CONTROL. Everstar, duralast/diehard (sears), napa, interstate batteries (most) are made by Johnson....

Edit: Found out NAPA is no re-badging INTERSTATE batteries...
I just replaced mine with an Everstart Maxx. That is all I have used over the last several years. Put one in my Jeep and Pathfinder. No complaints from me. $75. Oh, I got them from WalMart.

And on my Frontier, I tricked my radio into remembering the time and radio stations programmed. I placed jumper cables on the Frontier cable ends and then to the battery in the pathfinder. Then I removed the cables from the battery and switched batteries. Put the cables back on, removed the jumper cables, and everything was good. Sorry, I am lazy and didn't want to reprogram all 18 stations. Nor did I want to find my Alpine owners manual to find out how to set the time on my radio. 166
Yeah, EverStart and Interstate seems to be the most popular batteries out their, but i don't have a wal-mart near by (closest is a 2-3 hours drive) and nobody else sells Everstart. I was thinking of buying Interstate but there warranty kind of sucks and they cost more. But NAPA is now with Interstate/Johnson. If my truck doesn't start for some reason, i can always just ride my bike or take a bus to the napa store that's 5 miles from me. 163 That's what's so great about buying from NAPA, they are everywhere! 188

Good thinking, I'll have to remember that one. Shouldn't be too hard, I always have a spare Nissan kickin around here somewhere (6 currently 165 )

When I do replace the battery, I will probably go with an Optima. Had a yellowtop in the Pathy and that thing never died... even in outdoor winter storage it never lost a charge. Started up every time. That's the old Pathy too, when the clock is on all the time. The same yellowtop is still in active duty on my trailer to power the winch.
I put a die hard gold in. Group 24f as you can see on the label. I forget the price and warranty.

Returned the Exide battery that was about 9 months old with some signs of leakage, and bought a Interstate aka Johnson badged at the legend 75 from another NAPAs store. Cost me around $86 with tax. Was thinking about getting an ORBITAL, since they were on sale for $130 but that's almost twice the price...they wanted almost $200 for the OPTIMA! The Both are Gel filled...which is great for my type of driving...speeding off road.
Could not install the battery i bought. The guy over the counter at the NAPA store gave me 7524...not 7524F. The - was on the + side and the + side was on the - lol. The guy told me to bring it in for a trade, so i went back and come to find out, i was stuck with another EXIDE. I demanded my money back and went battery shopping. Did not find anything i liked, so i'll be buying a new battery on the way to SO-Cal. Hey, atleast i got all the corrosion off with baking soda and replaced a terminal. But as i was installing the old battery, some battery acid spilled out...eeek. I think i'll be buying Everstar from Wal-Mart. If not, an AGM battery (gel)...optima, yellow top...
WOW! if it wern't for bad luck, you'd have no luck at all!
Get this one and be done with it!

I had a glassmat battery in my 2001 Miata and was not very happy with it. I only put 3000 miles on it in 5 years so it sat around a lot. Under those circumstances it would not hold a charge for very long. You also have to buy a different charger for it or you will fry it as I did my original battery.

I checked with the dealer before I charged it on my standard charger and was told it would be okay if I did a slow charge on it. Not true. They gave me a new battery.

You must be crazy to think i'd spend that much on a CAR BATTERY! hahaha. I was tempted to buy an AGM EXIDE ORBITAL...since they are on sale for $130 at the NAPA store, but there were only 2 and i didn't ask if one would fit on my truck. I'm just going pick up an Everstart at a Wal-mart and be done with it, unless i can find a great deal on a AGM battery between now and Monday morning. You can't really go wrong with a 3 year replacement warranty and over 100 months of pro-rating. The only downside to Everstart is that the nearest Wal-mart is 2 hours away....

Ignore me if thread is getting annoying, i know how i am sometimes, haha. I just like shopping for the best deals.

Has anybody here heard of DEKA INTIMIDATOR? I found a battery for $120 shipped. It has a 36 month Warranty...
